Strategic Communications & Visual Storytelling
I’m Sonyville, an Indonesia-based strategic communications consultant with over 10 years of experience supporting international development organizations, NGOs, and private-sector partners.
I help organizations turn their programs, achievements, and field experience into clear, credible, and engaging communications that support organizational priorities and stakeholder needs.
My work combines strategic communications, visual storytelling, content development, digital communications, and multimedia production. I support organizations in developing communication strategies and messages, documenting programs, producing compelling stories, and maintaining consistent communications across projects and platforms.
Visual storytelling is a core part of my work. Through photography, video, and other multimedia formats, I help organizations document progress, capture human stories, demonstrate results, and communicate complex development work in ways that are accessible and meaningful to donors, partners, decision-makers, communities, and the public.
But my role goes beyond producing content. I focus on understanding what needs to be communicated, why it matters, who needs to understand it, and how communication can contribute to broader organizational objectives.
Through long-term and retainer-based collaboration, I provide organizations with consistent communications support — combining strategic advice with hands-on content development and production. The aim is to make communications more strategic, coherent, responsive, and valuable in demonstrating impact and supporting meaningful social change.

My approach to photography is grounded in visual storytelling and purposeful documentation. I focus on capturing people, places, activities, and the context behind them to create images that communicate more than a moment — they help explain the work, progress, and impact of an organization or programme.
I see photography not simply as visual expression, but as a strategic communication tool. A well-composed image can document what is happening in the field, bring human experiences closer to audiences, and make complex development issues more accessible and relatable.
Whether capturing candid moments, programme activities, stakeholder engagement, or carefully structured portraits, I aim to produce photographs that are authentic, relevant, and useful across communication needs — from reports and publications to websites, social media, campaigns, and donor communications.
Ultimately, the objective is not only to create visually strong images, but to ensure that each photograph contributes to a clearer, more credible, and more human-centered representation of the work and its impact.
As a videographer and visual storyteller, I support international development organizations and their partners in documenting, explaining, and communicating programmes, achievements, and impact. My role goes beyond filming — it involves understanding the communication objective, developing the documentation approach, planning interviews, identifying relevant stories, and producing visual content that reflects the programme accurately and credibly.
I approach video as both a storytelling and strategic communications tool. By combining strong visual narratives with real field experiences, stakeholder perspectives, and programme evidence, I help audiences understand what was implemented, the challenges and achievements along the way, and why the work matters.
My experience includes producing programme documentation, success stories, impact videos, campaign content, institutional profiles, donor communications, and digital content for development and sustainability initiatives. Each production is designed with its intended audience, communication objective, and distribution channel in mind.
The objective is not simply to produce a compelling video, but to create credible and purposeful visual communication assets that organizations can use confidently for reporting, knowledge sharing, stakeholder engagement, fundraising, and public communication.
